One of the topics DeForest Area School District has been studying over the past couple of years is in the area of our grading and assessment practices. We continually strive to improve how and what we assess and communicate to students and parents.
Teachers and administrators have participated in book studies, read articles, and attended several workshops and conferences. On August 30, 2010 from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, nationally acclaimed speaker Rick Wormeli will present to school district staff on grading and assessment practices.
Rick Wormeli was one of the first Nationally Board Certified teachers in America and brings innovation, energy, validity, and high standards to both his presentations and his instructional practice. His teaching career spans 30 years teaching math, science, English, physical education, health, and history from 2nd through 12th grades. He has authored several different books, including:
- Fair Isn’t Always Equal: Assessing and Grading in the Differentiated Classroom
- Metaphors & Analogies: Power Tools for Teaching Any Subject
- Summarization in any Subject.
While the program is designed with educators in mind, interested family and community members are invited to attend the full day or morning /afternoon sessions. If you are interested, please contact Sue Wilson at 842-6531.
