We are excited about an upcoming event for students at DeForest Area Middle School. All students in grades 7 and 8 will be participating in a Courage Retreat, presented by Youth Frontiers®, Inc., October 19-22. This dynamic and meaningful program is designed to create a more positive school community. Throughout the day students will be challenged to think critically about how they treat themselves and others, accept people for who they are, resist following the crowd, and act with moral courage despite their fears.
Click here for the “Courage Retreat Overview” with a schedule for the day and information about the program components. Over 10 community and parent volunteers are needed each day as Small Group Leaders. As a small group leader volunteer, you will participate in an orientation session 30 minutes prior to the retreat, and facilitate small group discussions three times during the day. The rest of the time, you will be watching, participating when comfortable, and helping with overall supervision.
Additional scheduling details:
Time: 8:30 am – 2:30 pm
Place: DeForest Area Middle School
- Tuesday, October 19: Apollo Team (7th grade)
- Wednesday, October 20: Mercury Team (7th grade)
- Thursday, October 21: Green Team (8th grade)
- Friday, October 22: Orange Team (8th grade)
Please note that the retreat is a very high-energy experience which requires some sitting on the floor. The retreat is most effective when all leaders participate fully in the retreat experience. If you are someone who has the time and energy to devote to helping today’s young people make tomorrow’s world better, then this experience is for you.
