Students from the DeForest Area High School DECA chapter attended the Central Region Leadership Conference (CRLC) December 2-4 in Chicago, Illinois. The theme was “Vision 2010”. Over 2,600 students from all over the Midwest attended this conference. The conference started with artist and speaker David Garibaldi who amazed the crowd with his “Rhythm and Hue” artistry. He paints portraits of many recognizable people throughout the world including Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lennon.
During the conference students attended leadership workshops held by various businesspeople and speakers from throughout the country. These workshops helped students enhance their leadership skills and helped them prepare for the first level of DECA competition in January. “The conference speakers were much better than I expected. I feel like what they said will have a positive impact on my life. I’m glad I went,” said Matt, , a DAHS junior and DECA officer. The conference ended with magician and keynote speaker Craig Karges who performed magic tricks and used the power of intuition to create the impression that nothing is impossible.
In January, DECA students will be competing at Oregon High School in many areas of business, followed by the annual DECA Dad’n’Daughter dance on January 29.
DECA is a co-curricular student organization at the high school for students interested in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.
