Spelling Bee Winner and Runner-Up

Katie, daughter of Thomas and Karen Kreis, moved one step closer to a $25,000 scholarship after winning the middle school’s 20th Annual National Geographic Society’s Geography Bee. Katie won the bee on January 6, 2011 at the school-level competition.

Sophie, daughter of William and Christine Le Gore of Windsor, was the runner-up. Katie will take a written examination to determine if she is eligible to compete in the state Geography Bee in April.

The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. for the state champion and teacher-escorts to participate in the national competition May, 2010 where Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek will moderate.

Other students who won their classroom competition and advanced to the final school round after receiving top scores on a written test were: Alex, Cole, Haven, Sabrina, Andrew, Hunter, Ryan, and Jeff.
