Congratulations to Maggie Brown, DAHS science teacher, who was recently chosen by the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers (WSST) as recipient of the Frank Zuerner New Science Teacher Scholarship. Brown teaches Chemistry I and Chemistry I Honors at DeForest Area High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from UW-LaCrosse, majoring in Broad Field General Science, with a minor in Chemistry.
The scholarship award provides Brown with free membership to WSST for one year, plus two nights lodging at the WSST annual conference, held this year in Wisconsin Dells, March 17-19. She will also be honored during the conference at their annual Milton O. Pella Banquet.
DAHS Principal Machell Schwarz commended Brown on her award, saying “Maggie has established herself as a stellar science teacher in her first year here at DeForest and it is great to see that her efforts have been rewarded by this scholarship and recognition. I am confident that she will enjoy the WSST conference this spring and bring even more great ideas back to her classroom. The impact she has had here has already been felt and will be for years to come.”
