Forensics team finishes season strong

The DeForest Area High School Forensics Team wrapped up a fantastic season this April.

With 36 student members, the team started out the season by placing 4th at the Lodi Tournament and 3rd at the James Madison Memorial Tournament. At the Badger Conference Tournament, DeForest beat all North and South conference teams, regaining their 1st place title as conference champs.

On April 15th, the team attended the State Forensic Festival, where they individually earned three gold medals, 17 silver medals, and two bronze medals. Out of 357 teams in Wisconsin, DeForest finished in the top five percent, winning them the “Excellence in Speech Award.”

The following day, at the State Tournament, five competitors from DeForest advanced to the semi-finals, helping the team to place 4th overall out of 70 Division II teams.

To top off the success of the team, Coach Tom August was awarded “Coach of the Year” at the State Tournament.
