8th Grade Geography Bee

Photo of the students in the Geography BeeRachel Williams, daughter of Mark and Kathy Williams, moved one step closer to a $25,000 scholarship after winning the middle school’s 21th Annual National Geographic Society’s Geography Bee. Katie won the bee on January 5, 2012 at the school-level competition.  Emily Chermak, daughter of Peter Chermak and Mary Hansen, was the runner-up.

Rachel will take a written examination to determine if she is eligible to compete in the state Geography Bee in April.

The National Geographic Society will provide an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. for the state champion and teacher-escorts to participate in the national competition May, 2012 where Jeopardy’s Alex Trebek will moderate.

Other students who won their classroom competition and advanced to the final school round after receiving top scores on a written test were:  Josie Brandmeier, Will Gahnz, Travis Konopacki, Michael Sausen, Eric Skowronski, Andrew Stouffer-Lerch, Dryden Van Schoyck, Heidi Pullen, and Emily Quam.
