The DeForest DECA chapter competed at the State Career Development Conference March 13-15. Twenty-four high school marketing students traveled to Lake Geneva to compete among 1500 students from across the state in series event categories. Events are available in several occupational areas such as Food Marketing, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Retail Merchandising, and Financial Analysis. Students were required to take two tests based in economics and the specific occupational area. Also, they were required to compete in two role play events, where they had to problem solve and communicate their plans with an experienced judge in their field of competition.
DeForest Area High School had several students do very well. Award winners include: Bryce Bellefeuille, Mckenna Gates, Branden Miller, Ryan Miller, and Allie Reynolds. Overall Series winners that will represent DeForest at the International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah are: Holly Krey, William Peters, Matt Bedker, Riley Pink, Brittney LaTour, Mari Fletcher, and Lauren McKay. William Peters said after finishing 5th, “I’m very excited to represent my school and community in Salt Lake. Hoping I can bring home a nice trophy after I’ve gained some valuable experience competing last year at ICDC.” Second Place winner Riley Pink, a teammate of Matt Bedker added, “This is such an amazing opportunity for me to gain valuable knowledge about marketing. I will study very, very hard to do well at Nationals. I have always envisioned myself on that stage with 14,000 people looking at me, and making my school and advisor, John Webster, very proud!”
Riley Pink was also elected to the State Office of Wisconsin DECA. He will serve as the Vice President of Public Relations for the 2012-13 school year.
