New state report cards for Wisconsin schools

The following letter was sent to DASD families on October 10, 2012

Dear DASD Families,

As we reported in the September issue of DASD News, the 2012-13 school year will bring some exciting changes to student learning in the DeForest Area School District. This year will also bring changes to the way schools themselves are evaluated by the state.

On October 22, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) will issue a School Report Card for each of our schools and for every public school in Wisconsin. The School Report Card, using multiple measures of student learning, will provide valuable guidance on how our school district is performing and where we can improve. The School Report Cards are just one part of a new, statewide accountability system for schools. This system, and the report cards, will grow and develop in future years.

We are confident the new School Report Card, as well as the many other changes being implemented in Wisconsin schools, will help our schools identify strengths and promptly move to address our challenges. More information about the School Report Cards and other pieces to the new statewide accountability system will continue to be shared with parents and the public throughout the year.

You may view a sample report card at http://dpi.wi.gov/oea/pdf/hgschrptcard.pdf.
All communications and information around this topic will be posted on our district website at www.deforest.k12.wi.us.

We hope you find this information to be helpful and ask that you contact Director of Administrative Services Ann Higgins if you have any questions (ahiggins@deforestschools.org, 842-6580).

Sincerely,
Dr. Jon Bales, Superintendent
