Haiku winner

Haiku winnerEach year the Greater Dane Gifted and Talented Coordinators Network sponsors many challenging events to inspire the creativity and sharpen the writing skills of students. One of these events is the Haiku competition for fourth graders.

Haiku is a form of poetry that is composed of three lines in a specific form. The first line must be five syllables, the second is seven syllables and the third returns to five syllables. A fourth grader in Jenny Engel’s class, Logan Wilson, at Yahara Elementary school was the only finalist from the De Forest Area School District in the Haiku Poem contest. A total of forty poems were chosen out of over 3,000 entries.

Fourth grade teachers at Yahara and Eagle Point Elementary Schools participate in the project by working with his or her classrooms in the fine art of writing Haiku poetry.
