Community expo and food drive featured during registration

It’s time for students to register for the 2013-14 school year.   All families will register their children at DeForest Area High School  (815 Jefferson Street, DeForest) on August 7, 8, or 12 – anytime between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm.  More information and required/optional forms are available at www.deforestschools.org.

DeForest Area Food Pantry donations needed

The DeForest Area Rotary Club will be sponsoring their annual school/community food drive during registration.  Space will be available at registration to drop off any non-perishable items you’d like to donate.

According to Food Pantry coordinator Keith Manke, the food pantry sees increased needs in the fall, especially as children go back to school.  Therefore, the Rotary Club is sponsoring a food drive during the three days of school registration, and is encouraging residents to continue giving through September.  What’s needed? Toiletries (laundry detergent, toilet paper, sizes 1, 2, 5 & 6 of disposable diapers, etc.) and non-perishable food (cereal, Hamburger/Tuna Helper, canned meals such as fruit, SpaghettiO’s, baked beans, instant mashed potatoes , instant white/brown rice, peanut butter, jelly).

Families with school-age children can bring donations to the high school during school registration on August 7, 8 and 12.  Also look for DeForest Area Rotary Club Food Pantry bins at the following locations:  DeForest Area Public Library (203 Library Street), DeForest Area Community/Senior Center (505 N. Main Street), DMB Community Bank locations (321 N. Main Street, DeForest; 815 S. Main Street, DeForest; 6562 Lake Road, Windsor), Grobe & Associates (819 S. Main Street, DeForest), Tesar Law Office (200 S. Main Street, DeForest), DeForest Police Department (305 E. Holum Street, DeForest), and Edward Jones (132 W. Holum Street).
