A crucial part of any kind of drug and alcohol prevention is collaboration among parents, school staff, and local law enforcement to educate and communicate with families of children from kindergarten to 12th grade.
The DeForest Police Department and DeForest Area School District are teaming up to present three informational sessions for parents of school-age children. Sessions will include information about the use of marijuana, alcohol, heroin, and prescription medications. Speakers will share with parents the “look fors” (t-shirts, language, culture), what the drugs actually look like, prevalence of use in the area/trends, and resources for assistance.
November 5: focus on marijuana (special guest Drug Recognition Expert Officer Toni Olson)
January 30: focus on heroin
February 25: focus on prescriptions medications, alcohol and again touching on heroin and marijuana
All presentations will be held at 6:00 pm in the DeForest Area High School Little Theater. (Please note: these presentations are designed for parents/guardians, not children.)
