Middle school students learn about online safety

IMG_0099Seventh grade students at DeForest Area Middle School recently learned about Internet safety from Brian Johnson, School Resource Officer with the DeForest Police Department.  Teachers Laura Kruschek and Holly Mair invited Officer Johnson to their classes on October 10 and 11 as part of their current unit on Internet safety and cyber-bulling in the middle school’s Digital Communications class.

The presentation covered topics such as avoiding risks online, digital footprints, online predators, social media guidelines, and preventing and responding to cyber bullying. Students were also encouraged to discuss the topic with their parents.

DASD parents/guardians will also have an opportunity to learn about online safety at a special presentation on Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 pm in the high school Performing Arts Center.  Officer Johnson will cover topics similar to those that students learned.  Please note that the November 21 presentation is designed for adults only.
