Veterans honored Nov. 8 at high school

Joyce Endres-2013_President Picture 1DeForest Area High School Student Council members will sponsor their annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday, November 8, beginning at 10 am in the high school gym. The event is open to all high school students and community members to honor all military veterans. The public may use the PAC (circle drive) entrance, with parking on the west side of the building.

Students will learn why Americans celebrate the Veterans Day holiday and honor those who have served or lost their lives in the line of duty.  This year’s guest speaker is Nancy Brown-Park, National President of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Nancy Brown-Park, of Palm Desert, Calif., was elected national president of the American Legion Auxiliary during the organization’s 93rd National Convention in Houston, Aug. 23-29, 2013.

Nancy Brown-Park, a member of George Tadlock Unit 472, joined the American Legion Auxiliary through her father, Richard D. Brown, a WWII Army Air Corps veteran. She is also eligible through the service of her husband, Jim Park, a Navy Vietnam War veteran.

Nancy is a 65-year member of the Auxiliary, has held numerous leadership positions in the organization at the unit, district and department levels. Nancy Brown-Park has a background as a retail buyer and currently owns and operates a sales and marketing company.

She exemplifies the American Legion Auxiliary motto of Service Not Self by actively volunteering in her community and with other philanthropic organizations.   Her national theme is “Pass It On”.
