School district staff have selected Plunkett-Raysich (PRA) to conduct a comprehensive review of all DeForest Area School District facilities.
In late September, a Request for Proposal was sent to six architectural/educational planning firms who have done similar business in Wisconsin. Four proposals were submitted to DASD by the October 11 deadline. Superintendent Dr. Sue Borden and Director of Business & Auxiliary Services Diane Pertzborn reviewed the proposals and made a recommendation to the school board at their October 14 meeting.
Plunkett-Raysich staff, together with school district officials, started October 24 conducting an instructional utilization walkthrough of each school building. They have also met with principals to share input collected from staff. PRA is now scheduling mechanical/structural walkthroughs for early November, and will provide district staff a preliminary report in mid- to late-November.
According to Borden, “Our school board is committed to providing excellent educational programs for all students, and we regularly review practices so improvements can be made. As with other growing school districts across Wisconsin, we must take a look at facilities as part of that process.”
School board members engaged in an initial discussion in September by establishing guiding principles for district space needs. “Guiding principles are created to help inform future decisions,” said Borden. “If and when the school board gets to the point that they need to look at specific space needs, options can be evaluated against these established guiding principles.”
The school board directed Borden to proceed with a facilities study and to gather facts and data on current demographics. The school board will continue discussion on space needs and guiding principles in the upcoming months.
Information about the enrollment and facility study is available on the DASD website at http://www.deforestschools.org , under “Current Topics”. The site will be continually updated as activities takes place and new information is available.
