DeForest DECA competed at the 2014 State DECA Career Development Conference March 18-20. Over 1,500 students from across the state arrived in Lake Geneva and did their best in each of the series event categories. Students competed in events focused on several occupational areas, such as Food Marketing, Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Retail Marketing Management, etc. Each student was required to take two written tests: one on economics and the other was specifically related to the occupational area of the event. Students also competed in two role play events, where they had to problem solve, develop promotional campaigns, deal with difficult customers, and other situations.
McKenna Gates placed first in her series event and qualified for the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, GA, this May. Congratulations to other ICDC qualifiers and event winners; Anna Sausen, Megan Pilecky, Lauren Bayer, Anna Langdon, Avery Williams, William Peters IV, and Clayton Gotzion. DECA is a high school co-curricular organization for students enrolled in marketing classes. Questions about this event can be referred to advisor John Webster at email@example.com or 842-6790.
