DAHS to establish Academic & Graduate Hall of Fame

Thanks to a donation of $6,200 by the DeForest Area Foundation, the high school will begin establishing an Academic and Graduate Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame will complement the existing Walk of Honor on display at the high school.  While the Walk of Honor focuses on celebrating individuals who contribute to the schools and community, the Academic and Graduate Hall of Fame will honor each year’s graduating class’s top scholars and distinguished alumni (graduates).

In a few months, the school district will begin soliciting nominations for consideration into the Academic and Graduate Hall of Fame. The Graduate Hall of Fame program will recognize and honor former DeForest Area School District graduates who have achieved a significant degree of success in their pursuits of higher education and/or in their professional careers.

The Academic Hall of Fame program will recognize the cumulative body of a student’s work as it applies to academic achievements at DeForest Area High School.

According to School/Community Relations Coordinator, Debbie Brewster, “The Academic and Graduate Hall of Fame recognition is being established to provide outstanding role models for the students in the DeForest Area School District and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our current students and graduates.”

Brewster submitted the application to the Foundation for display cases that will showcase the honorees.  Plans are to begin accepting nominations in January.  Until the Hall of Fame is up and running, the display cases will feature work of current students.

“This is a nice addition to the high-quality venue used by so many in the school and community,” said DeForest Area Foundation President Brad Schroeder.

According to Schroeder, the DeForest Area Foundation is dedicated to supporting charitable purposes and activities that benefit the DeForest area.  The Foundation has several areas of focus, which include, but are not limited to:  the Community and Senior Center, or organizations that support education, arts, culture, historical preservation, parks, families and youth.

In order to qualify for funding, an organization must have a 501( c ) (3) rating.  Applications are considered twice each year.  Interested groups may submit applications by March 1 or September 1 to The DeForest Area Foundation, 505 North Main Street, DeForest, WI 53532.
