The DASD Norski visits with students at YES.
One student waits for his ride after school on Feb. 27 and couldn’t wait to dig in to his new book!
The DASD Norski mascot visited Yahara Elementary School on Friday, February 27 to help kick off the school’s Read-a-Thon. According to reading specialist Kathy Williams, for the next six weeks YES students and staff are challenged to read the equivalent number of minutes as miles to the moon and back!
The Read-a-Thon event is a joint effort with the Yahara PTO who generously provided a new book to every student to celebrate the kickoff.
“While the main focus is to celebrate and encourage lifelong reading, any funds raised will be used by the PTO to purchase books for our summer reading program,” said Williams. “We also hope to provide every student with a book to be enjoyed as a family read aloud over the summer.”
The Norski mascot attended the Feb. 27 assembly to help get students excited about the event. Rumor has it, he is quite the avid reader himself! Williams is pleased with the initial response from students. “I have attended countless Norski Nation events over the years that have cheered our students, our athletes, our musicians, and our actors, but there was nothing quite like being in a gym with over 400 students cheering one another on as READERS! Gave me goosebumps!” Williams said.
