Seniors earn scholarships at Elmer McLaughlin Band Concert

The DeForest Area High School Music Department celebrated more than 80 years of music education on Thursday, May 7, with the second annual Elmer McLaughlin Band Concert.

The Concert Band performed Shackleford Banks by Jay Bocook, American Riversongs by Pierre LaPlante, and America the Beautiful by Samuel Ward. The Symphonic Band performed Semper Fidelis March by John Philip Sousa, English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughn Williams, and Barber of Seville by Giachinno Rossini. A short video slideshow was shown from the Orlando Band & Choir trip during spring break.

Ethan Loney was the recipient of the Richard Fellenz Band Award.

Katherine Kennedy received the Mark Sieger Scholarship. Amber Taugher, Cameron Soat, and Erika Perkins were awarded the summer music clinic scholarships from DeForest Area Music Boosters.

Kirsten Koheler and Courtney Wassertheurer were recipients of the Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award.

Erika Nelson received the Quincy Jones Musicianship Award. Calvin Compe received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award.

Anna Parks received the Patrick Gilmore Award and Emily Hill received the John Philip Sousa Band Award. All seniors received a special gift  courtesy of the DeForest Area Music Parents.
