The DeForest Cross Country Team will be demonstrating their school spirit by “running” the homecoming football from Mount Horeb to DeForest’s Stalder Field at DMB Community Bank Stadium on Friday, September 25, 2015.
Approximately 71 runners will partner up to run one-mile legs of the 42-mile trek from Mount Horeb High School to DeForest Area High School. All of the runners will run their legs, with the entire boys’ and girls’ teams running the last mile together. This is the 15th year of the annual homecoming event for the Norski runners. Coaches Christopher Smith and Joe Parker continue the tradition started as a wonderful way to involve the cross country team in the celebration of school spirit and support for the annual homecoming football game.
The coaches plot the safest route between the two communities. They recently spent an afternoon driving the actual running route and marking the relay points.
Parent volunteers will drop off, pick up and shuttle runners. Runners will run in groups carrying the actual game ball, with the goal of entering the high school’s Stalder Field at DMB Community Bank Stadium (where the game is being played) 10 minutes prior to game time. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
