Update, 10-23-15: Mary Schultz, of Century21 Real Estate, has just matched the school’s donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Mary has worked with Gina Buettner’s class for several years as a business partner through the district’s Adopt-a-Class Program.
On Thursday, October 15th, students and staff at Morrisonville Elementary School surprised their teacher, Gina Buettner, with a “walk” and donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Buettner was diagnosed and treated last year for lymphoma.
Days before the 15th, staff and students at the school had been collecting donations, with many students choosing to do extra chores at home to raise funds. Then, on October 15th, they surprised
their teacher by wearing bright green shirts to school (lime green ribbon is the well-known color to raise awareness for Lymphoma causes). After a gathering in the school’s cafeteria, the entire school held their “walk” to the park in Morrisonville and released green balloons in Buettner’s honor.
According to school secretary Ann Hinner, students and staff raised $308.46 to be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
