DAHS freshmen, Sarah Stouffer-Lerch (trumpet) and Jacob Chambers (percussion), performed with the State Middle Level Honors Band on Saturday, October 31 at Waunakee High School. Both students auditioned as 8th graders. According to DeForest Area Middle School band director, James Skaleski, the audition process is very competitive. “Only 10% of students that audition typically make it into the group,” said Skaleski. He shared information about the number of students who applied vs. the number actually accepted.
Their conductor was Juan Tony Guzman, a professor at Luther College.
