Congratulations to Jamison Meier, 7th grader at DeForest Area Middle School, who will participate in the annual regional spelling bee in February. Jamison won the district spelling bee after five rounds with the word deciduous. She will now compete with other students in the more challenging regional competition to be held in Stoughton.
According to Laura Salopek, 5th grade reading teacher at the middle school, it was an intense battle for second place. “It took 12 rounds to get a second place winner, with a tight contest between 5th grader Kevin Jones and 7th grader Evan Romaine,” said Salopek. Evan finally took 2nd place by spelling two words correctly: tsunami and epiphany. Evan will serve as the alternate for the regional competition.
