Kelsey Lapin, art teacher at Yahara Elementary School, has recently been awarded first place in The Art of Education blog contest. Her blog, entited “The Artsy Fartsy Art Room,” was chosen by her peers in the Rising Star category. The other categories were Elementary, Secondary and Wild card.
According to The Art of Education (AOE) website, “There are many amazing places to find ideas, inspiration, and encouragement on the web, and it’s no secret art teacher blogs are some of the best! That’s why for the past few years we’ve been highlighting these talented and generous individuals in our annual Art Ed Blog of the Year contest, the web’s only contest that exclusively honors Art Education blogs.” The contest is a way for art teachers across the world to recognize their peers for blogging excellence.
Lapin said that she writes in her blog about projects, resources, and daily things in the Yahara Art Room, as well as highlighting student work. She started the blog in October 2013 and writes on a pretty regular basis.
The Art of Education (AOE) was founded by Jessica Balsley as a means of providing relevant professional development opportunities for art teachers. AOE provides online classes for Art Teachers, an online magazine with daily articles, tips, tricks, video, and has the offered the first ever online conference just for art teachers.
First place winners in each category receive a $500 gift card to put towards AOE classes, an opportunity to speak at a future AOE conference, a $50 Blick gift card, and a customized badge to display.
“THANK YOU to The Art of Ed for shining lights on such talented fellow bloggers and running this contest!” said Lapin.
