Families get help with FAFSA

CollegeGoalWI-1 CollegeGoalWI-2Nearly 90 people attended the College Goal Wisconsin event held at DeForest Area High School on Saturday, February 20.

College Goal Wisconsin is held each year for families to receive free assistance in completing the FAFSA. This is the form that colleges require students to complete to be considered for financial aid.  According to Debbie Brewster, School/Community Relations Coordinator for the DeForest Area School District and organizer of the event, “some families complete and submit their form before leaving. Others may complete most of it, get answers to questions from financial aid experts, and save the form for submitting at a later date.  Either way, they get the help they need from experts, rather than struggling through the online form alone.”

While over 30 similar events are held throughout Wisconsin, DeForest is one of only two College Goal Wisconsin sites in Dane County. “We are pleased to offer this service to families in our area,” said Brewster. “We surely couldn’t do this without the wonderful volunteers who work in accounting, financial services, and college financial aid offices in DeForest, Windsor and other communities in Dane County.”

Each location also conducted a drawing where a student could win a scholarship for college. The scholarship winner at the DeForest event will be notified by Brewster. For more information about College Goal Wisconsin, please visit www.collegegoalwi.org.
