This summer four students will represent DeForest Area High School at the annual Badger Boys & Girls State.  High school staff selected Brenna Bernards, Kira Hankins, Alexander Gonzalez, Brandon Westra, and Jacob Thalacker (alternate).

Badger Boys State, held June 11-18 at Ripon College, and Badger Girls State, held June 19-24 at UW-Oshkosh, are both programs designed to teach Wisconsin high-school students leadership and the workings of government.  Hundreds of high school students face the task of organizing municipalities, state and county governments, political parties, lobbying groups, and senate and assembly.  Through the task of creating and putting these into action, students gain a unique “hands-on” experience with government.

The DeForest American Legion Post 438 sponsors and contributes to this annual activity.
