May 12th Elmer McLaughlin Commission Band Concert features piece composed for DAHS

The DeForest Area High School Music Department will be celebrating more than 80 years of music education on Thursday, May 12, with the Elmer McLaughlin Comission Band Concert. The concert will be held at 7 pm in the DAHS Performing Arts Center. Admission is free.

This year’s Elmer McLaughlin Commission Band Concert will be featuring the world premiere of a brand new piece, “Echoes of Wind and Wilderness” composed by Dr. Charles Young from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point.

This piece, specifically written for DeForest Area High School, is written in memory of Daniel Haswell, alumnus of DAHS. Daniel was a music teacher, graduate of UW-Madison, and worked for the Monette Trumpet Company.
