Students in Theresa Gartland’s 3rd class at Windsor Elementary School presented a check for $640 to DeForest Rotary President Julie Wichmann.

This spring, students in Theresa Gartland’s 3rd grade class at Windsor Elementary School teamed up with their Adopt-a-Class business partner, the DeForest Area Rotary Club, to raise money for children in Haiti.  The class sponsored a school-wide penny drop challenge to raise money for Ventures in People.
Ventures in People provides an opportunity to contribute funds that sponsor Haitian students to attend school.   According to the program’s website, it costs $160 to send one child to school for one year.  “That amount of money provides the student with the entrance fee, tuition, some books and uniforms,” the website reports.  Through the efforts of Ms. Gartland’s students, the school raised $640.  Their contribution, plus another $600 donated by the DeForest Rotary Club, will sponsor 12 students to attend school for one year.
