Williams named Educator of the Year by local American Legion post

Kathy Williams, reading specialist and literacy coach at Yahara Elementary School in DeForest, has been selected Educator of the Year by Olson-Grinde Post 348, The American Legion.  Williams was presented a certificate of commendation on June 21 for outstanding public service as a teacher.  According to Post 348 Commander, Bill Ridgely, Williams was selected for the award for “demonstrating exceptional evidence of highly accomplished teaching, exceptional history of participation within the school district, dedication to self-improvement, and community service benefiting our community, state and nation.”

Dr. Sue Borden, administrator of the DeForest Area School District, was on hand to congratulate Williams on her accomplishments and achievements.

Yahara Principal Mike Weisensel said Williams is a “high quality person who is respected by students, parents, and colleagues” and that she “always keeps students as her central focus and is willing to assist others in any manner possible.”
