Two constitution speech contests available to high school students

us-constitutionDAHS students have two opportunities to practice and showcase their speaking abilities, while demonstrating their knowledge of the constitution.

Members of DeForest and Windsor Now (DAWN) are hosting their annual Constitution Speech Contest.  Formally called the “United States Constitution Original Oratorical Contest,” participating students will select any Bill of Rights Amendment and defend it to a panel of judges.  Students must sign up by November 21, and the contest date is December 5. More information: constitutional-speech-contest-brochure-2016.

The local level of the 2016 U.S. Constitution Oratorical Contest sponsored by the DeForest Olson-Grinde American Legion Post #348 is also available to high school students.  Students are required to research, write and memorize a 3-5 minute speech related to the United States Constitution.  The local competition will occur on Monday, Dec. 12 at the high school.  The winning student will then compete in the Dane County competition on January 7, 2017.  Winners have the opportunity to continue to district, state, and national competition.  More information can be found at:, or contact Bill Ridgely at 846-2823.

Both contests are open to any student at DeForest Area High School. Students may sign up for each with high school English teacher Jan Williams (Room C124).
