A group of students and teachers traveling from China arrived safely to the Madison area on January 31st after a long journey from Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School.
Nineteen students and two teachers are here until February 4th to learn about the U.S. culture, participating in regular family routines and attending school. According to Kathy Williams, who is coordinating the program for the DeForest Area School District, middle school families are hosting six of the students. The others are in the McFarland and Monona Grove districts. They will then travel to New York and Washington, DC before returning to China. The students from China are attending school with their host family’s son or daughter in each district.
The Chinese teachers are visiting each of the three school districts. “They were at our middle school on January 31 visiting the English Language Arts classes and observing our teaching practices,” said Williams.
