Gardiner project earns DECA gold certification for The Korner Store

Abi Gardiner with Korner Store Project displayAbi Gardiner competed at the high school State DECA Conference in early March with a presentation on The Korner Store. The Korner Store is a school-based enterprise (SBE) run by students at DeForest Area High School.  Abi is the student manager for the 2016-17 school year.

Abi earned 3rd place overall, earned a Gold Certification, and will be going to the International competition in Aneheim, California to participate in a school-based enterprise academy and compete against other SBE Gold Certified chapters.

DECA’s School-based Enterprise Certification Program was developed to provide recognition for outstanding achievement by school-based enterprises and to motivate SBEs to strive for excellence and growth. In order to apply for the certification, SBEs must submit extensive documentation that demonstrates their adherence to various marketing and retail standards. After the documentation is submitted, a review committee evaluates the documentation.

High school marketing teacher and DECA advisor, John Webster oversees The Korner Store, hiring a student manager each year to supervise the operations.  Student DECA members work throughout the day in the store under the manager’s leadership.
