On Thursday, May 24, DeForest Police Department in partnership with the DeForest Area School District presented a mock crash exercise that simulated the aftermath of a crash that occurs as a result of impaired/distracted driving. Supporting agencies, including police, fire, and EMS, displayed their response to these calls and also showed the methods used when responding to such a traumatic event.
DeForest Area High School seniors watched the simulation during the school day on May 24th. Another community event was held in the evening. Both were intended to educate the audience about the dangers of impaired and/or distracted driving.
Thank you to the many individuals and agencies that once again brought this valuable mock crash learning experience to our students and community! A special thank you to lead organizers Rebecca Schneider and Officer Brian Johnson, as well as Jan Williams and drama/SADD student actors. High school staff also expressed gratitude to Police Chief Dan Furseth who started the event 17 years ago.
