Students in Amy Williams’ first grade class at Eagle Point Elementary School recently participated in a “genius hour.” According to genuishour.com, provides students a choice in what they learn. It allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom.
According to Williams, students began by asking questions about topics of interest to them. With fourth grade students from Candace Toth’s class serving as coaches, students researched their topic. Finally, they designed a project to show what they had learned. “First grade students felt motivated and proud the work they were doing,” said Williams.
