On Monday, June 5, students at Yahara Elementary School chose their summer reading books. Through the generosity of the Yahara PTO, every student choose four brand new books to take home and read over the summer.
Each student was also given a book to use as a summer family read aloud. Related activities will be offered to families during our fall open house.
According to Reading Specialist Kathy Williams, current kindergarten students received “My Father’s Dragon” in preparation for seeing it performed next year at the Overutre. Current first graders chose “Charlotte’s Web,” and current second through fourth graders voted on “Shiloh” as their choice.
“This is the fifth year students have been given books to read over the summer,” said Williams. “The students are always so excited and grateful! Williams said that she overheard several positive comments throughout the day, including “This is the greatest day ever!”, “I’m going to keep this book out of my bag so I can read it on the bus ride home.”, and “We really get to keep these books – FOREVER?!”
