Roelke to be recognized for 50 years of coaching

Former DeForest Area High School Head Football Coach, and WFCA Hall of Fame member, Jerry Roelke, will be honored during the Norskies home football opener on August 18.  Roelke will be starting his 50th consecutive year as a football coach for DeForest Area High School.  Roelke launched his career as the Norskies Head Coach in 1968 and retired following the 1999 season.  Coach Roelke then became a volunteer coach on Mike Minick’s staff and has continued in that role every year since 2000.

Roelke’s 1980 and 1981 teams finished as WIAA Division 4 State Runner-ups and his 1982 team finished 12-0 and captured a WIAA Division 4 State Championship.  Roelke’s teams won 8 conference championships during his tenure.

Kickoff for the August 18th Oregon vs. DeForest football game is set for 7:00 pm at DMB Community Bank Stadium.  Former DAHS players in attendance at the game are asked to join Coach Roelke at halftime for the recognition ceremony.

  1. Congratulations Mr. Roelke!
I had you as my study hall teacher (4th hour — in the auditorium) in 1974. I think I was your problem child because I was always the “talkative” one. Anyway, Congratulations and Thank You for your many years of service to our school.

  2. Congratulations. A well deserved honor for a life of dedication to the youth that have had the privilege of calling you Coach. I’m proud to have been on the first team that was runner up in state.
