Band and Choir students at DeForest Area High School are busy preparing for their upcoming performance at Disney Springs over Spring Break in Orlando, Florida. According to band director Brandon Bautz, the very competitive process began in March 2017, and it is an honor to be selected.
While at Disney, students will perform, but also participate in a clinic workshop. “Obviously this will be a fun trip, but there is also a great clinic experience. Students will learn from Disney’s top notch professional musicians and conductors. They touch on many National Core Arts Standards that we do in our teaching in a very engaging and fun way,” says Bautz.
In addition to practicing for their performance and scheduling the logistics of the trip, Bautz and choir director Cortney Hammer are helping students organize fundraisers to help pay for the trip. “The cost is a challenge for some students,” said Bautz. “So, they are working hard to raise the funds needed to make the trip.” According to Bautz, proceeds will also go towards purchasing equipment that their regular budget cannot cover, such as risers, instrument storage cabinets, supplies, etc.
The group’s newest fundraiser is not the traditional selling of products. It is a social media based program called Snap! Raise that collects donations.
