On Monday, May 21, thirteen staff members were honored at the Board of Education’s Retiree Reception at Eagle Point Elementary School.
Leaving the district, with a combined 316 years of experience, are (pictured above): Nora Geach, Dan Kvalheim, Donna Stoltenberg, Lori Kvalheim, Jane McGuine, Kathleen Klinkner, Pam Masak, Julie McCarville, and Sue Wilson. Not pictured: Kathy Gordon, Tim Adams, Butch Bollig, and Pat Yocum.

- Nora Geach, 7 years
Nora served as the District’s friendly crossing guard on the corner of Jefferson and S. Cleveland Streets. For seven years, she had a smile and a wave for everyone who passed by. Nora retired in September 2017.
- Julie McCarville, 14 years
Julie has been the Administrative Assistant in the Instructional Services Department for seven years. For seven years before that, she was the secretary at Windsor Elementary School. Julie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from UW-Oshkosh.
- Donna Stoltenberg, 17 years
Donna began her career at DASD as a Special Education Assistant at Yahara Elementary (4 years). She then continued serving special education students at the middle school (4 years) and then nine years at DAHS. Prior to working in DeForest, Donna spent three years with the Rarly Autism Project. She attended Laney Community College in Oakland, CA.
- Lori Kvalheim, 21 years
Before coming to DAHS as a Family & Consumer Science teacher, Lori worked at Albany High School and also subbed throughout many school districts including DeForest, Albany, Evansville, Orfordville, and Parkview. Lori earned her Bachelor of Arts degree for both Home Economics Education and Clothing Textile Design at UW-Stout. She also earned her Master of Arts in Education at Viterbo University.
- Pam Masak, 22 years
Pam served 18 years as a first grade teacher at Yahara Elementary (and a third grade teacher for one year). Before DASD, she worked at St. Jerome’s in Oconomowoc and Holy Family-Marinette for 12 years. Pam earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary/ Middle Education with a concentration in Fine Arts, and also a second major in Theatre, from Mount Mary University.
- Tim Adams, 24 years
Tim served as a custodian at DeForest Area Middle School for the entirety of his 24-year career at DASD. Tim retired from DASD in November 2017.
- Susan Wilson, 24 years
Sue was a math teacher at DAHS for 14 years, and served as Director of Instruction for the District for another 10 years. Prior to DASD, Sue was at the Dane County Transition School. She earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree in Education at UW-Madison. Sue also holds a Viterbo University Certificate for Principal & Director of Instruction License and a UW-Madison PhD (ABD) in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis.
- Butch Bollig, 27 years
Butch has served as a custodian and maintenance employee for his entire 27 years at DASD. Prior to coming to DeForest, he worked in several other maintenance positions in private industry. Butch retired in November 2017.
- Jane McGuine, 28 years
Prior to her career at DASD, Jane worked for West Side Elementary, Platteville High
School, Independence School District, and the New Glarus School District. She has been a Speech/Language Pathologist for DASD, and has worked at every school in the district. Jane earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees at UW-Eau Claire.
- Kathleen Klinkner, 31 years
Kathleen has been a sixth grade teacher at DeForest Area Middle School for 31 years, and has taught math, social studies, reading, and writing. Prior to teaching at DASD, she spent four years at St. Dennis School in Madison.
- Dan Kvalheim, 32 years
Dan started his teaching career at Parkview High School in Orfordville, working there for six years before coming to DASD. He has served as a high school teacher in Agriculture and Agriculture Technology for 32 years. Dan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Education at UW-River Falls.
- Kathy Gordon, 34 years
Kathy has taught a variety of subjects in physical education and health at DeForest Area Middle School since 1984. She has also been a middle school cross country coach and high school track assistant coach for many years. Kathy earned her BS in Physical Education from UW-Lacrosse and a Health Education minor from UW-Madison.
- Pat Yocum, 35 years
Pat has been the Head Cook at DeForest Area Middle School for the majority of her 35 years with the District. Before working at DASD she was a bookeeper at the Woolworth Company in Marshfield and at the Radford Company in Windsor. Pat retired from DASD on August 30, 2017.
