High school to host annual Veterans Day presentation, Nov. 9

veterans-dayDeForest Area High School Student Council members will sponsor their annual Veterans Day assembly on Friday, November 9 (10-11 am) in the high school gym. The event is open to high school students and community members to honor all military veterans. Students will learn why Americans celebrate the Veterans Day holiday and honor those who have served or lost their lives in the line of duty. The public may use the PAC (circle drive) entrance, with parking on the west side of the building.

The program includes musical performances by the DAHS band and choir. The vacant chair ceremony will also be held again to honor those from each branch of the military who did not return from war.

This year’s guest speaker is Wisconsin Army National Guard Brigadier General Robyn J. Blader. Brig. Gen. Robyn Blader is the Assistant Adjutant General for Readiness and Training for the Wisconsin Army National Guard. In this capacity, she assists the Adjutant General and Deputy Adjutant General in sustaining and growing the organizational readiness of the 7,500 Soldiers of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, in the effort to maintain the defense of the Nation and the State of Wisconsin.

Brig. Gen. Blader graduated from Wautoma High School, Wautoma, WI. She holds a bachelors degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh; a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison; a masters degree of Science in Health Services specializing in Emergency and Disaster Management from Touro University; and a second masters degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
