  • Cyber Awareness – For Parents/Guardians
This session is for all parents/guardians with children who have access to smartphones, computers, tablets, or online gaming devices. The DeForest Police Department has seen a spike in crimes being facilitated by social media or other online applications targeted towards youth and would like to provide information for parents to ensure they are up-to-date on current applications their child may be using. This session will dive into what applications are being used and how to take safety measures to ensure your child is being safe online. With an increase of crimes such as cyberbullying and child exploitation, parents need to know what applications are on their child’s phone/computer/tablet and what they actually do. This session’s goal is to equip parents with tools on how to mitigate your child’s exposure to non-age appropriate material and to reduce their probability of becoming a victim of a crime. Parents will leave this session with more tools on how to enhance their child’s online security. There will be an opportunity for Q&A. Session presented by School Resource Officer Andy Freeman.
  • Love and Logic for Caregivers: Part 1
The “Love” in Love and Logic means that we love our kids so much that we are willing to set and enforce limits. The “Logic” in Love and Logic happens when we allow children to make decisions, affordable mistakes and experience the natural or logical consequences. Come learn the basics of this model and try it out with your children.
  • Love and Logic for Caregivers: A 3-Part Series
This is a 3-part series. *Please consider attending the overview first on March 4 if you haven’t already attended one in the past. The Love and Logic approach to caregiving is built around the science of caring and respectful relationships. An authentic, loving connection between caregivers and their children forms the foundation of good behavior and healthy decision-making. Sounds easy enough but never before in history have caregivers been faced with so many challenges! Our approach provides a variety of simple and effective strategies for parenting children from birth to adulthood. Whether you’re embarking for the first time with your new baby or navigating the turbulent teens with your child, our strategies and techniques will help you create calm and loving solutions.
