Ava VanDommelen, a senior at DeForest Area High School, is currently in her second year of a two-year Biotechnology Youth Apprenticeship Program (YAP). Her mentor, Dr. Melissa Skala began her career in the same YAP at LaFollette High School. An article recently featured in the November 1, 2017 issue of Promega Connections newsletter highlights Skala’s career and how she is paying it forward by mentoring VanDommelen.

According to the author, Barbara Bielec, Ava is following in Amani’s footsteps, and will present her research nationally this January at the SPIE conference (the International Society of Optics and Photonics).  In the article, she also shares a Q&A with Ava.
